This summer, the Community of Cinema for the Future (CCA/GZK) is filming La Poya, a feature film set in Valais. A sensitive film about family ties, the challenges of rural life, and transmission, at the heart of the Swiss pastures.
A Summer of Cinema at the Summit
In the heights of the Val d'Hérens, the bells resonate, the cows ascend to the alpine pastures... and so do the cameras. Starting in July 2025, the Community of Cinema for the Future (CCA/GZK) will begin filming La Poya, a fictional film shot as close to reality as possible, in the heart of the Valais mountains. At the intersection of rural portraiture and family drama, this project brings together grand landscapes, Hérens cattle, and human tensions in an intimate fresco driven by strong values.
A Story Inspired by Reality, at the Heart of the Alpine Pasture
La Poya tells the story of Norbert, a breeder of Hérens cattle, and his children. Weary and weakened by the loss of several animals the previous year, Norbert is wary of the seasonal shepherd, who has come from abroad. He calls on his son Guy, an art student, to watch over the herd. But conflict erupts. Guy shares neither his father's convictions nor his suspicions. When tensions reach a boiling point, it is his sister Marceline, whom no one expected, who returns to the alpine pasture and decides to take matters into her own hands.
A tale of ruptures, misunderstandings, but also of connections. The story explores the inner ravines as much as those of the landscape: those dug between generations, between roles, between solitude and transmission.
Between Fatigue, Pride, and Paranoia: A Portrait of a Man in Decline
The film centers on Norbert, an emblematic figure of the Valaisan breeder. He is not just a livestock owner: he sits on the alpine committee, manages the logistics of grazing, navigates health regulations, neighborly expectations, unforeseen events, and conflicts. And this year, everything seems to be collapsing. The film depicts this silent accumulation of trials: the fall of his favorite cow, militant intrusions, doubts about the shepherd, and a growing sense of isolation. All set against a backdrop of majestic yet harsh mountains.
But La Poya is also the story of uncertain succession. A father who dreams of his children taking over, and children who choose a different path. The film subtly evokes that pivotal moment when transmission no longer passes through masculine expectations, but through an unexpected, calm, determined feminine energy. It is Marceline, the daughter, who will take over. In her own way.
A 100% Alpine Shoot: Between July and October 2025
Filmed between July and October 2025 in the Val d'Hérens, La Poya aims to be close to reality. The film will be made in immersion in the alpine pastures, with a cast blending actors and local residents. Like its characters, the film crew will also live in effort, dust, wind, bells, and the harsh light of altitude.
The scenes will take place among mayens, barns, herds, and pastures. The film will draw its authenticity from the gestures of everyday life: milking, ascending to the alpine pasture, committee meetings, shared meals, exchanged glances in silence.
Cinema as a Relay: Values and Missions of the CCA/GZK
Behind this project is the Community of Cinema for the Future (CCA/GZK), a Swiss association founded in 2024. It supports emerging projects in Swiss cinema, creating bridges between the worlds of cinema, territories, and know-how.
With La Poya, the association honors several of its founding values:
The valorization of rural and alpine heritage,
The highlighting of the invisible in the agricultural world,
Intergenerational listening,
The role of women in rural transitions,
Cinema as a space for transmission and collective storytelling.
More than just a film, La Poya is a love letter to the alpine pastures and to those who bring them to life.
